Mooreabbey Milers - Sarah Springs Gold At County Road Championships

Another busy weekend saw us head to Ballingarry Co. Tipperary, Slievenamuck Ridge, Ennis Co. Clare, Tralee Co. Kerry and Mallow Co. Cork

County Champs
We had 5 Mooreabbey Milers take part in the county novice B road championships in Ballingarry Co. Tipperary last Sunday. Sarah Fitzpatrick and Martina Moloney flew the flag for the ladies. Sarah battled hard on the last hill climb to get her toe over the finish line with a split second to spare earning her a gold county novice B medal. Our mens team Willie O'Donoghue, Kevin Lenihan and Damien Holian battled even harder in a tough mens race which saw Willie finish in 5th place and with Kevin and Damien just outside the top 10 helped earn the boys a county novice B bronze medal.

Ennis Triathlon Club held their duathlon in Barefield Ennis Co. Clare on the 25th March. Liam O Donnell took part in this Duathlon. Liam had a 3.5km run, 13 km cycle and a 3.5km run. Liam finished in the top third overall and was 4th in his category. Well done Liam.

'Mallow 10'
Mallow 10 was organised and hosted by Mallow AC. This event saw 1,500 competitors take to the start line. Leading the way in purple was Kieran Lees who completed the 10 miles in a lighting fast time of 57.17. Our newest members Denis Ryan and Aoife Kingston followed next both in under an hour & fifteen and an hour and a half respectively. Mary Pyke who is no stranger to a 10 mile rounded out the mooreabbey milers on the day also coming home in under an hour and a half and beating her own time from last year.

'Slievenamuck Half Marathon'
This very successful walking Marathon and half Marathon is held annually on Palm Sunday since 2009 it provides a unique opportunity to traverse the whole of the ancient Slievenamuck Ridge over a distance of 42km. The figure of eight route is largely forest track, forming two loops, east and west, Rock an Thorabh was the start and finish point with Mooreabbey at the most westerly end and Bansha Woods at the most easterly end of the route and taking in both the north and south sides of the ridge. Over recent years a number of runners have also taken part and this year our own leading man Tom Blackburn had a bit of back yard training and breezed through the half marathon to take the top podium position. Congratulations Tom. Also flying around this half marathon course for the club was Paddy Bourke and Pádraigín Riggs walking the route was Mike Carey, Rodger Sampson, Mary Hinchey and Sheila McGrath
