The Great Limerick Run was held on Sunday the 6th of May, with the option of a 6 Mile, Half Marathon or Full Marathon. We had club athletes compete in all three distances in some of the hottest weather we have seen this year. In the 6 Mile we had 6 ladies compete. First home out of the 6 was Colette Alley in 59:52, she was followed by Claire Ryan 1:01:32, next was Naoimh Dooley 1:06:51, Lorna Duggan 1:08:20, Orela Blake 1:08:54 and Kathleen O'Brien 1:14:24. In the Half Marathon we had 4 ladies compete over 13.1 miles. First home out of the 4 was Ausra Mackeviciute in 1:39:57, she was followed by Brid Quirke making her debut over this distance in 1:45:49, next was Mairead Julian 1:46:03 and Christina Fryday 1:48:35. In the Marathon over the distance of huge 26.2 miles we had our only male athlete compete at the Great Limerick Run. Liam Butler had a fantastic run in 3:36:15 and was 2nd Man Over 60. Well done to all competing over these distances in hot conditions.

We had 105 club athletes take part including our Juvenile, Senior and Fit4Life athletes. If your name is excluded it is due to some non members of the club registered as Dundrum AC. Some confusion perhaps with maybe being from Dundrum. We welcome everyone with open arms if you'd like to join though!

Our 3rd Annual BK5K was held on Wednesday the 2nd of May. This race is in memory of club member Brendan Kinane who always dreamt of having a 5k race in Dundrum as we had the perfect flat and fast course. On the night conditions were ideal for running. We had a huge turnout of 501. This figure is somewhat higher as some families walked under one race number. We had people walk, jog and run at all levels of fitness and ages. From babies being pushed in a buggy to club member Laura McCarthy Armstrong's grandmother Maura Armstrong who is the oldest woman to do the Women's Mini Marathon in Dublin every year at the age of 93. This was just a warm up for her before the June Bank Holiday weekend. We would like to give the following thanks for the help with our race: O'Dwyer Steel, Kickhams GAA, Dundrum Scout Hall, Noel & Bridie Quirke, Order of Malta, Ballydoyle Racing, Butlers Centra, Heffernans Foodstore, Tipperary Co Co. O'Gorman Family, Tom McDonald.  Also all the club members who helped with promoting the race and spreading the word, making sandwiches, buns and cakes and all that helped out with serving and cleaning up. Premier Timing systems and all those who helped with the registration. The Committee members Michael Ryan, Michael J Ryan, Laura McCarthy Armstrong, Karen Ryan, Linda Grogan, Willie O'Dwyer, John Moore and Michael Moore. The following are the results of the race. In the Men's race the winner was Sean Doyle of An Bru AC in 15:13, this time is a BK5K record, but the course record is still held by Darren Dunne of Nenagh Olympic from the Junior 5k at the Coillte 10k in 2016 in 15:12. Next was 2nd David Ryan of Clonmel AC in 16:03, 3rd Dermot Hayes of Dundrum AC 16:08, 1st O40 Shane Simcox of Mallow AC 16:29, 1st O45 John McCormack of Dundrum AC 18:49, 1st O50 John Walsh of Clonmel AC in 18:32, 1st O55 Michael Moore of Dundrum AC in 19:39, 1st O60 Joe Gough of West Waterford AC in 19:08, 1st Junior Kevin O'Grady of Dooneen AC in 16:22 and 1st Wheelchair Jerry Forde.  In the Ladies's category the winner of the race was Grainne O'Callaghan of North Cork AC in 18:42, 2nd was Shona O'Flynn of Dooneen AC in 18:53, 3rd Aine Roche of Clonmel AC in 19:33, 1st O35 Brid Quirke of Dundrum AC in 21:35, 1st O40 Denise O'Brien of St Nicholas AC in 20:47, 1st O45 Nicola Maunsell of Clonmel AC in 21:44, 1st O50 Anna Byrne of Clonmel AC in 22:53, 1st Margaret Whelan of Dungarvan in 26:34 and 1st Junior Orla Ryan of Dundrum AC in 21:05.
