Clonmel boxer wins gold at National Championships in Dublin

Clonmel boxer Thomas ‘Rocky’ O'Reilly is celebrating after winning gold at the National Championships in Dublin last weekend.

The 13-year-old from the Heywood Road won the National Boys 2 43kg category at the National Stadium.   

Rocky lost out last year by one point, but came back fighting in 2018 by winning the Michael Andrews Memorial Tournament County Championship and then the Leinster Championship to qualify for the national finals.

Rocky is a past Ss. Peter and Paul’s pupil and is currently in first year at Clonmel High School. He is very dedicated to his craft, travelling to Athy three times a week to train with St. Michael's Boxing Club and coach Dominic O'Rourke.

Rocky's parents Anne and John are very proud of his success.
