RTE Room To Improve viewers shocked by one detail of house on Sunday night's episode
RTE Room To Improve viewers were stunned by one detail on Sunday night's show featuring architect Dermot Bannon and a couple from Tipperary.
Tipperary couple Brian Carrigg and Kate Molony's renovation of a bungalow with a view of the Rock of Cashel stunned viewers from the start given the price the couple paid for the original house.
The couple originally paid €303,000 for the house which required huge renovations. The house was cold and roof had to be completely replaced. An extension was not built to regulations and had to be removed.
Viewers were quick to share their thoughts on the huge price tag of the original house and the couple's original €220,000 renovation budget.
One said on X: "How in the name of God did they pay over 300k for a house that now has a condemned roof? Was there no engineer report when buying?"
Another added: "The house is gutted. I doubt it was a bad buy to start of with. €303k for a site essentially."
The comments continued to roll in: "To spend 500k on house in which the majority of it has been knocked is madness."
"This is a demolition job, not a renovation… literally none of the original house left."
"House’s roof has been condemned - did they not get an engineer’s report before spending 303k on this??"
"This couple are seeing their wishlist for this house dwindle by the second."
"It is concerning that €220k is considered a small budget, on top of the cost of buying the house! How are people to afford this going forward."
As always, the finished house was spectacular. You can see pictures posted by RTE below:
