Choral Society AGM

St Mary’s Choral Society Clonmel held their AGM on Wednesday of last week in the White Memorial Theatre. There was a good attendance of members who listened to chairperson George Barry, secretary David Hogan and treasurer John Staunton give a comprehensive report of the society’s activities and fundraising efforts over the past twelve months. The production teams and cast of both productions this year - The Mikado and Jesus Christ Superstar - were congratulated on two wonderful productions, and Ruth Butler and Diarmuid Vaughan were also congratulated on their AIMS Awards (Best Programme and Best Actor respectively). A vote of sympathy was passed to the family of the late Terence McCarthy, former chairman of the society who sadly passed away during the year.

The following officers and committee members were elected for the coming season:

Patrons: Fr. Billy Meehan, Rev. Barbara Fryday.

President: Denis Farrell

Vice-Presidents: Margaret O’Sullivan, Margaret Rossiter, Colm Fennessy, Michael O’Donoghue, Jim O’Shea and Sean Treacy.

Chairperson: George Barry

Vice-Chairperson: Liam Hunter

Secretary: David Hogan

Treasurer: John Staunton

P.R.O: Ruth Butler

Committee - Marie Crowe, Sheenagh Nix, Siobhan O’Dwyer, Grainne Boyle-Ryan, Grainne Vaughan, Noel Cairns, Robert Donlan and Paul Overy.

The new committee will begin work immediately and it is hoped to organise some fun fundraising activities over the summer. The society’s programme for the coming year will be announced in late August.
