There will be a special fundraising night of musical theatre at Brú Boru Theatre at 8pm on Saturday, October 1.

The popular Cashel venue will play host to Patrick Ball’s show “O’Carolan’s Farewell to Music.”

Seán Laffey the Castlelake based editor of Irish Music Magazine told us he had been trying to get the Patrick Ball show for Cashel over the past few years. When we asked what we are to expect, he said “ think of it like the Tom Crean show with music.

Patrick Ball gives a very funny and often moving monologue about the life and times of the famous blind Irish harper, in fact his only other Irish performance of the show this year will be in Nobber County Meath, the birthplace of O’Carolan”.

Seán says when he heard that Partick Ball was over for the Nobber celebrations, he immediately contacted Cashel Arts Fest.

“I thought this is a must show for Cashel, it has everything, it’s a wonderful piece of theatre and great music too, full of laughs and one hundred percent believable.”

California based Patrick Ball is one of the premier Celtic harp players in the world and a captivating spoken word artist.

He has sold over a half a million albums to date and his stage show is constantly in demand in the US.

In playing the ancient, legendary brass-strung harp of Ireland with its crystalline, bell-like voice, and in performing marvellous tales of wit and enchantment, he not only brings new life to two cherished traditions, but blends them in concert to create a fantastic evening of entertainment , his show has been described as a “a richly theatrical and hauntingly beautiful performance.”

Tickets cost €E10 (concessions are available) and will be available soon from Heritage Centre, O’Dwyer’s Chemist and on the night at Bru Boru.
