“The involvement of local people both as volunteers or host families during the recent European Rural Charter has resulted in many Cashel citizens discovering for the first time what the historic town has to offer,” according to Councillor Tom Wood.
Over the weekend of the event, at the start of this month, he met people who had never been in the Main Street car park, Palace Hotel gardens or the Bolton Library despite living in the community for years, the local councillor said, this week.
Councillor Wood believes that a considerable number of locals have also never been on the Rock or visited any of the other local attractions and he contends that this is the opportune time to change the situation.
Some years ago he organised familiarisation evenings for those directly involved in servicing the tourism market and he now believes that a similar informative programme could be introduced during the Arts Festival in November. “It could help instill pride in our town and its environs”, he concludes.
