Last week was one of upheaval for Fine Gael TD Tom Hayes whose office in Cashel was broken into the day before Tipperary was united as one general election constituency.
The break-in took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning of last week.
“I can confirm that there was a break-in at my constituency office in Cashel . Office equipment and computers were stolen during the robbery and some damage has been done to the office itself. Needless to say the Gardaí were contacted as soon as the break-in was discovered and they are currently investigating the incident,” said a shocked Deputy Hayes.
“Over the years we have been contacted by well over 13,000 constituents seeking help on various issues. Although all of their details are stored electronically, I want to reassure them that there is no danger of their personal details being compromised. All of our Oireachtas computers are equipped with a Checkpoint Encryption System that will prevent any such information falling into the wrong hands,” said Deputy Hayes.
Deputy Hayes contacted the gardaí about the incident and also reported the matter to the Data Protection Commissioner.
