Queens and crazy boats at Cahir Fair

All the fun of the fair is coming to Cahir with the welcome return of the Fair of Cahir.

All the fun of the fair is coming to Cahir with the welcome return of the Fair of Cahir.

Events start on Friday evening and continue to Sunday. With three days of music, dance, events, fun and games there is a something for everyone to enjoy. Popular highlights are the Queen of the Fair Competition (sponsored by The Punters Rest), the Crazy Boat Race (sponsored by Dolan’s Supervalu), the Dog Show, Funday Sunday and Funfair in the GAA field all weekend.

The news that the Cahir Fun Dog Show is returning to the Castle Inch Field has been received with delight. There is a Doggie Fancy Dress class, plus the usual fun and games. Darren Ward Jewellers sponsor the show, with a cup for first place in each of the pedigree classes and another for Best in Show and rosettes from first to fourth in all classes.

The Dog Show takes place on Sunday with entries taken at 1.30pm judging taking place at 2pm starting with puppies.

The Fair of Cahir coincides with Heritage Week. On Heritage Sunday why not go along to Cahir Castle to enjoy traditional music, song and dance. Soak up the atmosphere created by local musicians and an All Ireland winning singer and dancers from 2.30pm to 5pm and admission is free. Why not take a guided tour and enjoy the castle’s many interesting exhibitions. On Sunday a thatching demonstration will take place in The Swiss Cottage from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Admission free, access to cottage by guided tour only.

The Fair opens at 6pm on Friday on the main stage in The Square - meet the Fair Queen competitors and enjoy live music until 10pm.

On Saturday, at 11am join the guided heritage tour with Dr. David Butler at the Tourist Office; 6pm - Interviewing of Queens on stage and entertainment to 10pm.

Sunday is a fun filled day including: Funday Sunday in The Inch Field, dog show, crazy boat race and entertainment in the Square. Don’t miss the crowning of the Fair Queen at 5pm.
