Music Day

Hungarian Cellist, Peter Sybastian will perform on National Music Day ‘Love: Live Music’ on Friday April 8 alongside many other musicians at Danny Ryan’s Music Shop, Bank Place from 2-6pm.

Enjoy recitals, box players, fiddlers, guitarists and musicians of all kinds, as well as pupils from the Ryan School of Music and members of the County Tipperary Ryan Youth Orchestra (CTRYO) past and present. All visitors to the celebration are most welcome.

Easter Gala

Tipperary & District Flower & Garden Club is hosting a Gala Easter Demonstration in aid of Cystic Fibrosis the AOIFA Charity this year. It takes place in Ballyglass House Hotel on Thursday April 14, at 8pm. Tickets are €E12.

Slievenamuck Marathon

The Galtee Walking Club is getting ready to field its third Palm Sunday walking marathon on Sunday, April 17. The full marathon crosses the entire ridge from Bansha Woods to Moor Abbey in Galbally, but a half marathon is also provided for. To participate, you need to be a practiced walker and have a good sturdy pair of walking boots. No boots = no walk. Fonn Rince

This new sean-nós dance festival ‘Fonn Rince’ will take place at Tigh Roy, Ionad Cultúrtha in the Glen of Aherlow, Co Tipperary, from Friday April 8 to Sunday April 10.

The dance festival will feature some of the finest exponents of sean-nós dancing in a weekend of concerts, dance workshops, talks and informal dance sessions.

The official opening will take place on the Friday night at 8.30pm followed by a talk by Seosamh Ó Neachtain from the Conamara Gaeltacht on the history and tradition of sean-nós dancing. The evening will conclude with a concert of music dance and song hosted by celebrated singer Seosaimhín Ní Bheaglaoich from the West Kerry Gaeltacht.

Saturday will feature two dance workshops. The Community Centre, Lisvernane will be the venue for the morning dance workshop at 11am-1pm with tutor, Paul Moran (Galway)

The afternoon dance workshop will take place at the Community Centre, Galbally 2.30-4.30pm. tutor Mairéad Casey(Longford).

An informal dance session will take place on Saturday afternoon at 3.30pm in Moroney’s Pub, Lisverrinane giving an opportunity to visiting dancers and those who have learnt a few new steps at the workshops to take to the floor.

The Saturday evening concert will take place at Tigh Roy, Ionad Cultúrtha at 8.30pm.

A gathering of sean-nós dancers will take place on Sunday morning 12.30pm at Tigh Roy, Ionad Cultúrtha in a lively discussion on sean-nós dance.All events are open to the general public.

The ‘Play on Words Theatre Company’ presents ‘O’Sullivan Beara’ at the Simon Ryan Theatre, Excel on April 18, 2011 at 8pm.

Art Exhibition

‘The World Around Us’ is an exhibition of art work by a group of local artists under the tutelage of Marguerite Keating from Golden and is presently showing at the Gallery Tipperary Excel.

The Listeners; an exciting new Trad Group performing on Saturday, April 9 at 8pm. Church of Ireland

This year Bishop Michael Burrows has requested all parishes to make a very special effort to highlight the importance of Easter to the Christian faith. Special events have been planned throughout the Diocese and in the Cashel/Tipperary group of parishes .

Palm Sunday, April 17: congregating near the Cashel Palace Hotel at 11am and walking to the Cathedral symbolising Jesus entry into Jerusalem,

Continuing inside the Cathedral at 11.30am. That same evening at 7.30pm at St. Mary’s Church, Tipperary town, a procession will start from the main gate and walk to the church, (part of the church will be prepared as the Upper Room). Both of these events will be dramatized and you are invited to come wearing colourful clothing and shawls.

On Easter Sunday morning at Christ the King in the Glen of Aherlow an outdoor celebration of the Easter Eucharist will take place at 6.30am.
