Congratulations to all the contestants that took part in the first round of the X-Factor 2011 competition at Lonergan’s Bar in aid of Re-Hab, where the participants put on a breath-taking show that kept everyone in suspense as to who would make it through the next stage of the competition.
Judges, John Shortall, Francis Lonergan, Joe Kenny and Sarah Purcell had the arduous task of trying to decide who would go through from the judge’s vote, while the public decided 50% of the total vote through voting for their individual choice at €E1 per vote, all of which went to Re-Hab.
The first round contestants were Helen O’Brien (Fethard), Mary Boland (Moyglass), Deirdre Dorney (Fethard), Rebecca Murphy (Kilmoganny), Holly Williamson (Cloneen), Martin Shelly (Ballingarry and Tony McGarry (Fethard).
Based on the television show, judges were asked to comment on each act after their performance. Their comments were constructive and professional and this added to a great atmosphere in front of a large crowd of supporters and friends of the contestants.
The standard of singing and performance was such a high quality that it was unfortunate that any of these acts had to leave the competition at such an early stage and on the night the votes were so high that only one vote separated the last act to go through and the act that had lost out. It was a nail-biting finish to a great night’s entertainment. Success on the night went to Mary Boland, Deirdre Dorney, Jedward (Tony McGarry and Martin Shelly), and Holly Williamson.
We look forward to the second round of the X-Factor on Friday, June 24, with great anticipation. Come along and support the acts involved as all the money raised through the public voting goes straight to Clonmel Re-Hab. Thanks to the sponsors of the competition: Bulmers, Gleesons, Heineken, Diageo and Tipp FM.
