Clonmel student seriously injured after being hit by car

Gardai are still seeking to talk to witnesses to a road traffic accident in Clonmel that occurred on Tuesday of last week when a sixteen year old boy was seriously injured.

Gardai are still seeking to talk to witnesses to a road traffic accident in Clonmel that occurred on Tuesday of last week when a sixteen year old boy was seriously injured.

A pupil at the Central Technical Institute on Raheen Road, Kieran Holohan. Oakland Drive, Clonmel was walking with friends after school when he was struck by a car.

He sustained serious head injuries and was removed to South Tipperary General before being transferred to Cork University Hospital.

He underwent surgery over the weekend and is still detained in hospital.

Gardai said the car was driven by a local woman who had been interviewed. Her statement and statements from witnesses have been taken and a file is bring prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai would like to speak to others who were in the vicinity of the school around 4pm on Tuesday of last week.

“We would like to talk to students who were in the area and also to adults who may have been parked on Raheen Road waiting to collect students,” said a garda spokesperson.

He said the incident occurred on Raheen Road. The road was closed for some time to allow a forensic examination to take place.
