Chairman of Cahir Tidy Towns, Andy Moloney, has written once again to the Minister Brian Hayes to extend the opening hours of the Swiss Cottage to cater for the October Bank Holiday visitors.
The Swiss Cottage was recently voted the third most romantic spot to visit in Ireland and a decision by the Minister to delay opening from the historical date of St. Patrick’s Day to March 30, then closing on October 16 seems a little obscured in this, the year of The Gathering, according to Mr Moloney.
During the Minister’s recent visit to the Swiss Cottage he suggested that a community voluntary scheme could be put in place to cover the shortfall in the days lost. Mr. Moloney has written in disgust to think that specialised guides in the Swiss Cottage could be cast aside in their jobs and replaced with volunteers. Mr. Moloney says that the Minister should put a plan in place to make the grounds more accessible to wedding and corporate picture events and increase footfall to make up the revenue lost in wages.
