A wonderful Christmas concert took place in Aherlow House Hotel in the lead up to Christmas. The Tipperary Singers annual Christmas celebration was an event that will remain in the hearts of all who were present. The theme was a celebration of Tipperary, its people and all its achievements throughout the last year.
Members of the audience were delighted with the concert. “We were taken on a journey, away from this busy world, into the true meaning of Christmas.”
Betty Lynch, Musical Director of the Tipperary Singers was very pleased with the reception. “It was fantastic to escape from all the gloom and doom, the stresses and strains of life, to experience the Joy, Hope and Light that really is Christmas.”
A final celebration of the Centenary of the Song, ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’ will be never be forgotten. Through poetry and song, a moving tribute was paid to the memory of all who fought and died in The Great War of 1914-1918. “To see the audience rise to their feet, join hands and together with the choir, sing the final chorus to their memory, was indeed a sight to behold,” said Betty.
This was followed by a stirring rendition of the, ‘Holy City’ sung by Derek, joined once more by audience and choir. With the lights dimmed, the singing of ‘Silent Night’ and ‘O Holy Night’ beneath a starlit sky over Aherlow brought the evening to a close.
“I love this concert every year. I never miss it if at all possible, as it awakens me to the true meaning of what Christmas is all about,” said a member of the audience. “I’m on a high” said another, “It was totally inspirational.”
Congratulations to the choir and their many friends who took part in the concert: Derek Ryan, Carol Donovan. Fran Curry, Tommy Kennedy, Billy Clifford, Roy Galvin and Dancers, Jim Keane, Paddy O’Shea, Catherine Mulcahy, Mikaela Coffey, Claire O’Dwyer, Josephine Maguire, Kaye Wallace, (Accompanist) and Helen Morrissey, Narrator, who gave of their best in the true spirit of the season.
