The woodpigeon is a very common bird in Tipperary town but still retains its wariness around people. You will often see them in the hills and St Mary’s graveyard. They feed on a wide variety of leaves including dandelions. Growing your own vegetables has become very popular and this benefits woodpigeons. Early in the morning when the weary gardener is tucked up in bed they visit gardens to feast on salad crops. They have a prominent white patch on the side of their neck but this is lacking in immature birds.

Nests are built in trees and shrubs and one to three broods are common during the breeding season. The young are not feed on insects but on milk produced by the females and research has shown that this is more nutritious than cows. Comments to

The Farmer of Lisheen  

The day-time show is scheduled for Tuesday, July 23 at 2pm, not Friday July 19 as previously stated. The nighttime shows on July 18 and July 20 at 8.30pm. Tickets are €14; €10 concessions; and €5 for students. The show is a romantic comedy inspired by the songs of Joe Dolan, chocolate chip cookies and trashy romantic novels.
