A new service of skin camouflage aimed at those with a range of skin blemishes, old tattoos etc and operated by the Irish Red Cross commenced in Tipperary Town for the first time last week-end.

Trained Red Cross local volunteers provide the service in a monthly clinic, at present at the Tipperary Community Centre, for persons who have had a medical referral who wish to avail of the skin camouflage service.

This service is now available in Tipperary Town and in eight other venues around the country. Skin Camouflage is the application of special cover creams to improve the appearance of scarring and other disfiguring skin conditions, such as birthmarks. burns, old tattoos, thread veins and a range of certain other skin blemishes and conditions.

Clients from the public are seen by appointment only, and need to have a Consultants or GP’s referral letter in advance recommending they are suitable for the service. The Red Cross service is free of charge. However donations to support this specialised Red Cross service may be made.
