This summer, Clonmel Junction Festival produced a show called “We Can Be Heroes”, an outdoor rock music event.
The idea was conceived by Clonmel Junction Festival Director David Teevan and a group of emerging rock artists committed to a life in the professional music industry.
The musicians had all performed as support to the established visiting rock bands that had played at Junction Festival over the years.
The idea of We Can Be Heroes was to create a framework within which the young musicians could share the stage with the established artists.
Junction Festival engaged rock musician and producer Gavin Glass to work with 8 Clonmel musicians over a 3-month period. The Festival also invited Jack L, Jerry Fish, Paul Walsh and Cat Dowling to participate in the concert performance as guests.
The week before the concert a 3-piece string section and a 4-piece horn section joined the group.
Each of the artists both emerging and established was invited to perform one original song and a song by one of their heroes.
The concert ended with a truly fabulous finale with all 20 musicians sharing the stage for “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “We Can Be Heroes”
The inaugural “We Can Be Heroes” was a triumph. And Clonmel Junciton don’t want it to end there.
