Clonmel World Music Proudly Presents The Wiyos (New York, USA) at Raheen House Hotel Clonmel on Thursday 26th September From New York USA, The Wiyos are renowned as one of the most versatile and original bands on the US Roots Music circuit. With infectious exuberance and theatrical skill, they play a modern-day version of vintage string-band Jazz, Folk and Blues. The WIYOS live create a visual spectacle in the tradition of Vaudeville-esque performers.
Their 2009 Album, Broken Bell Land, was in the top 20 of The AMA chart for 14 Weeks. The WIYOS have spent over 10 years touring extensively in the USA, Canada, France, Holland and the UK. In 2009 they were hand picked by Bob Dylan as the Opener of The Bob Dylan Tour, along with Willie Nelson and John Mellancamp. They also played with Seasick Steve in London in 2009 , who said “Go See them, you’re in for a surprise” In 2012, The Wiyos released a concept album, Twist, a 14-track eclectic musical collage loosely based on The Wizard Of Oz.
In 2013 The Wiyos are back where it all started out, as a three-piece. They’re back digging deep into the Vaudeville/Old-Time beginnings including reintroducing the legendary Wiyos washboard, redesigned and centre stage. Michael Farkas is again the main crowd pleaser, along with multi-instrumentalist Teddy Weber and Sauerkraut Seth Travins on the upright double bass.
