CLONMEL’S World Music proudly presents Birds Of Chicago (USA) at the Raheen House Hotel Clonmel on Thursday, April 25th.
Birds of Chicago is a collective based around JT Nero and Allison Russell. It was formed in 2012 and its founder members are no strangers to Clonmel World Music. Allison Russell has played Clonmel World Music more than any other musician, visiting Clonmel three times with Po Girl, and JT Nero played with Po Girl on tour in 2010, who were the first overseas band to visit Clonmel World Music.
Whether touring as a duo or with the full band, Nero and Russell have emerged as two of the most compelling new voices in North American Roots music. Allison Russell is a beautiful singer and plays clarinet, banjo, ukulele, guitar. JT Nero sings and plays guitar and percussion. Allison and JT are joined on the Irish leg of the tour by Joe Faulhaber (acoustic/electric guitars) and Will Waghorn (drums/cajon/percussion), both members of JT and the Clouds.
For several years Russell and Nero’s respective bands, Po’ Girl (Vancouver, BC) and JT and the Clouds (Chicago, IL), have collaborated extensively, but on 2011’s Mountains/Forests, released under the JT Nero banner, they tapped into the true, bewitching power of their voices together on an entire record.
The record received critical raves and won them new fans on both side of the Atlantic, and created a great deal of excitement for the first official Birds of Chicago album, slated for released in 2012. The album is getting a lot of airplay all over Europe and has been featured on John Creedon’s show, as well as being record Of The Week on RTE Radio 1. They will play live on Pat Kenny on Wednesday, April 24th.
