Cashel Community School has qualified for the 2014 All Island Schools Choir Competition due to air this Sunday on RTÉ.
Cashel community School is one of 20 schools to qualify for the 2014 All Island Choir competition, it was announced this week. The All Island Schools Choir Competition is organised by Co-operation Ireland in association with RTÉ and supported by eFlow.
The competition, which forms a five-part RTÉ television series, aims to celebrate and encourage the tradition of choral music in second-level schools throughout Ireland. The show begins this Sunday on RTÉ 1. The competition was launched by the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys. Twenty secondary schools from the island of Ireland will perform at four live regional finals with the winners going on to perform at the Grand Final in Titanic Belfast on 16 November. Speaking at the launch, Terry O’Neill, Co-operation Ireland said that the All Island Schools Choir competition had gone from strength to strength.
“This initiative serves to recognise and celebrate this talent and to showcase the contribution that music and choirs make to the daily school curriculum. This is a unique competition that brings young people from the island together to perform and compete. We look forward to seeing the live shows over the next four weeks and choosing this year’s winning choir.” This is the 6th series of the All Island School Choir Competition which is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Education Northern Ireland, eFlow, Titanic Belfast and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board. Greg Thompson from eFlow, one of the main sponsors of the competition added: “We’re delighted to be involved and to support this successful programme and we wish all competing schools the best of luck”.
The 20 secondary schools are: Ballyclare High School; Priory Integrated College Holywood; St. Mary’s College Derry; Sullivan Upper School Holywood; Thornhill College Derry; Alexandra College Dublin; Blackrock College; Loreto Abbey Secondary School Dalkey; Sandford Park School; Wesley College; Convent of Mercy, Roscommon; Moate Community School; Scoil Bhríde Tuam; St. Joseph’s Secondary School Castlebar; St. Mary’s Secondary School Ballina; CBS Secondary School Kilkenny; Glanmire Community College; Regina Mundi College Cork and St. Leo’s College.
