We had a fine victory against North Kerry Cricket club last saturday. With all the heavy rain last week we were presented with a very wet and sticky wicket to match the soggy outfield and this was always going to ensure a low scoring game. After being put into bat we managed to remain relatively patient throughout and set our visitors a total of 89 for victory. A small total no doubt in any game but with the wicket being so wet it was certainly defendable. Fintan Moore top scoring with a patient and gritty 34 runs and a good effort from Graeme and kyle jansen towards the end of the innings helping us reach our total. In reply north kerry came out blazing and their openers had them at 25 without loss in no time. With so much time left in the game it effectively meant that we would need to bowl them out and once our bowlers got into the game the wickets began to fall regularly and we had the kerry men in all sorts of trouble. Brothers sean and aaron cawley bowling fantastic spells returning figures of 2-18 from 8 overs and 3-9 from 4 overs respectively. Indeed aaron was on a hat-trick at one stage. The cawley brothers were backed up fantastically by ronan kennedy who has returned to fine bowling form of late. Others to impress were rateesh sureth and jogesh who cleaned up the tail end to give us a fantastic victory as we bowled north kerry out for 58 runs hence a 30 run victory. A great effort by all in difficult conditions for both batting and bowling. Special mention to young ben hennessey who performed admirably in the field and also to keith marchbank on his captaincy debut. Team: Fintan Moore, Sean Cawley, Ronan Kennedy, Alam, Keith Marchbank, Aaron Cawley, Pat Cawley, Jogesh, Rateesh Sureth, Grame Jansen, Kyle Jansen and Ben Hennessey. Next week we play clare at home in a league fixture.
