National Heritage Week is coming and you can find out what’s happening in your county on the newly designed National Heritage Week website - www.heritageweek.ie - which was laucnhed last week.
Coordinated by the Heritage Council National Heritage Week takes place nationwide from August 23rd-31st.
Isabell Smyth, Heritage Council Head of Communications said: “the new website will make it much easier to search for events taking place in your area during Heritage Week, with an interactive map and enhanced search functions. You will also be able to generate PDF’s of events happening nearby, so you can create your own guide to the events you are interested in. For those still wishing to get involved in the week, you can register your event online and access a detailed event organizer toolkit explaining all you need to know on running an event during the week”.
National Heritage Week focuses on getting people involved in the heritage of Ireland and particularly the heritage of the local community.
Many events organised are free of charge and National Heritage sites also offer concession rates during the week itself. From medieval fairs, night-time bat walks, wildlife walks and lectures, classical music and poetry recitals, traditional music sessions, storytelling, historical re-enactments, and local history walks and talks.
Celebrating Heritage Week two exciting competitions are open to the public. The first offers a six-night touring holiday around Ireland, with two nights for two people in three of the 27 luxurious Manor House Hotels. Visit www.heritageweek.ie and click on the competition area to enter.
