Candidates for the presidential election will debate at Nenagh Arts Centre at the Town Hall next Monday, September 26, at 8pm in a public event.
Centre manager Brendan Maher said: “We’re really looking forward to the debate which brings together the candidates for the election in a public forum. The possibility of new candidates to the ballot has altered the picture somewhat, but we are hoping to secure the attendance of all the named candidates on Monday. We recognize however, that each has a busy and complicated schedule that can alter as the days pass, depending on events.
The debate will offer the public in Nenagh the opportunity to see and speak with the candidates, ask them their views regarding the role of president, and how each could develop the role in office. This election is one of the most important presidential elections in the history of the state, as we come to terms with the developing economic realities during recession. The president can act as a standard bearer for change and the way the country can move forward from difficult times. This debate is North Tipperary’s chance to assess that”.
