switch, Nenagh’s unique week-long and annual visual art event will take place from February 3rd to 10th. Now in its fifth year this free art event, presenting the works of eight international artists, will run daily from twilight to midnight. Visitors to Nenagh can expect to see shop-fronts and spaces throughout the town transformed by projected film and video artworks, created by a wide array of artists from around the globe.
International artists participating in this year’s event include Bonnie Begusch from California, USA, Max Hattler from London, UK, Yuri A from Zürich, Switzerland, Dave Kemp, Ontario, Canada, Ruairi McKenna Nenagh, Ireland, Oli Sorenson based in Canada, Hing-Kai Tam Hong Kong and Maria Vedder from Berlin, Germany
Switch is co-founded by artists Triona Ryan, a native of Nenagh, and Harald Turek. This project is funded & supported by the North Tipperary Arts Office. Ryan and Turek, as programme curators, circulate the information about Switch by word of mouth and via a series of artist’s networks from Glasgow to New York to Russia, ensuring the work comes from far and wide to Nenagh.
Triona says: “this year’s eight artworks, selected from many artists applying from the world over, respond to the theme of movements. Movements can be physical, political, social, cultural, educational and economical. These eight artists give us very diverse and varied approaches to this question”.
A switch-on tour of the artworks will take place on Sunday, February 3rd at 6 pm starting from Banba Square, Nenagh. The tour is an informal presentation of the works by the organising artists and lasts an hour. The tour is open to anyone interested in walking, art and conversation.
The full programme of timings, dates and locations for Switch 2013 is available by visiting the website at www.s-w-i-t-c-h.org. The walking tour on Sunday, February 3rd leaving from Banba Square at 6pm is free.
