From Clonoulty to Boorowa will be launched by Professor William Nolan at the Bookworm Bookshop, Liberty Square in Thurles at 7.30pm on Friday, April 12th. All are welcome.
Boorowa, New South Wales, became home for many Irish from Clonoulty in the early years of the 19th century. Thomas and Honorah Corcoran, the title couple in From Clonoulty to Boorowa, surrendered no fewer than seven of their descendants to the great pull of the Australian colonies.
From Clonoulty to Boorowa enters the lives of those descendants who made the journey. Their son Roger was the first to make the migration journey in 1816. Their grandchildren - Bridget, Mary, Thomas Hennessey, Honora and Mathew Hennessey - followed and a great-grandson, William, was the last in 1862.
Roger Corcoran married Mary Murphy in 1834 and they had five children. Mary and her sister Honora were transportees. Their lives and the lives of the their family in Ireland are narrated here.
