Twenty-three new Gathering events receive funding

Over 70 million people worldwide claim Irish ancestry. The Gathering Ireland 2013 provides the perfect reason to reach out to those who have moved away, to their relatives, to friends and descendants, and invite them home.

Communities throughout Ireland are showcasing and sharing the very best of Irish culture, tradition, business, sport, fighting spirit and the uniquely Irish sense of fun. There are clan gatherings, festivals, special sporting events, music and concerts taking place all across the country, all year long. Communities in South Tipperary have embraced this initiate with boundless energy and enthusiasm and it is to their great credit that South Tipperary now boasts a broad ranging itinerary of events which runs throughout the year totaling well over 50 gatherings.

To date five public meetings were held around the County to help communities prepare and plan their events, Web and Social Media training and Manage Your Gathering training were delivered, a Full-time Gathering Animator was employed by STDC to work directly with gathering organisers.

A high profile media launch took place last February at the Rock of Cashel and Brú Ború Cultural Centre. Most recently Gathering Clinics were held with 10 key gathering organisers.
