Horse and Jockey Remembers Committee presents Sharon Shannon in concert - as part of the ‘Back to Basics Tour’ - in the Derrynaflan Theatre at The Horse and Jockey Hotel on Friday, June 7th.
The commitee are delighted to welcome the accordionist extraordinaire of Irish music for a special night of top-class entertainment.
Sharon is a great ambassador for traditional music and is renowned all over the world for her musicianship and artistry.
While her roots are in Irish music, Sharon’s work demonstrates a wide-ranging number of musical influences, including Reggae, Cajun music, Portuguese music, and French Canadian music.
The genre-defying star has had multi-platinum album sales and has had several number one albums, singles and DVDs.
For years she has entertained and impressed audiences with a big band, her four piece group and orchestra, but now Sharon Shannon is going ‘back to basics’.
Sharon’s album The Galway Girl has gone four times Platinum in Ireland and the title track has, on two occasions, won the Meteor Award for most downloaded song.
In 2009 Meteor Awards honoured Sharon as the youngest ever winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award. In January this year, as part of Temple Bar TradFest, Sharon Shannon celebrated her 21st Anniversary as one of Ireland’s most well known and admired musicians.
Sharon is no stranger to Thurles, one of her earliest appearances in this locality was at the famous Féile concerts at Semple Stadium in the early 1990s. Our support act features Matthew Campbell, a young inspiring singer/songwriter from Co. Down.
The concert is organised by Horse and Jockey Remembers committee. This group was set up last year to increase awareness in local heritage.
Doors open 7.30pm. Tickets: E25 - Available from Horse and Jockey Hotel reception, O’Keeffe’s Shop at ’The Jockey and at Lár na Páirce, Thurles. Book early to avoid disappointment.
