Killinaskully’s favourite cheese seller takes a trip down memory lane in touring show ‘Mr Foley, The Radio Operator’.
Louis Lovett, better known to many as befuddled German resident Dieter Langer, is coming to town with his own theatre company Theatre Lovett, one of Ireland’s most exciting companies for young and old alike.
Lovett, with his wife Muireann Ahern, bring a beautiful tale for young and old to The Source Arts Centre.
‘Mr Foley, The Radio Operator’ is a show for six to sixty-year-olds and beyond. It is a gentle tale of radio waves, sorrowful partings and hilarious slapstick comedy. Spend some time with old Mr Foley as he forgets to remember and remembers to forget.
Having trodden the boards on 42nd Street New York last year and ahead of this year’s Australian tour which includes the prestigious Sydney Opera House, Theatre Lovett bring their world-renowned talents on a tour of Ireland.
About The Show
Old Jack Foley has a sore toe and it’s not getting better. Once when he was young and strong he dreamed of joining the circus. But now, tired and grey, he sits alone by his radio twiddling the dials on his memories.
The production stars the inimitable Louis Lovett, Ireland’s most experienced and critically acclaimed performer for young audiences, who is renowned for his natural ability to entertain, engage and enthrall children and adults alike. His uniquely playful style has been remarked on time and time again.
Joint artistic directors Louis Lovett and Muireann Ahern-Lovett take their play very seriously and create theatre that engages both adult and child within the same show.
This playfulness is Theatre Lovett’s signature and as a performer Lovett has a unique ability to surf the energy of his audience no matter what age, a rare talent indeed.
Written by Frances Kay in association with Theatre Lovett; directed by Muireann Ahern; starring Louis Lovett; lighting design by Sarah Jane Shiels; sound design by Carl Kennedy; stage manager Deirdre McCormack; production manager Adam Fitzsimons; producer Jeanine MacQuarrie.
‘Mr Foley, The Radio Operator’ is supported by Arts Council Touring and RTÉ Supporting the Arts.
‘Mr Foley, the Radio Operator’ features at The Source Arts Centre in Thurles on Saturday, March 8th at 12 noon. Tickets are priced at €8 (€26 for a family of four).
