‘Under Galtee Skies’ Now on Sale

A NEW book on the Galtee mountains has just gone on sale. “Under Galtee Skies” by local hill walker Jimmy Barry is a pictorial journey through the Galtees and with over two hundred and fifty (250) photos, this lavishly illustrated full colour book is one people must have in their collection.

A NEW book on the Galtee mountains has just gone on sale. “Under Galtee Skies” by local hill walker Jimmy Barry is a pictorial journey through the Galtees and with over two hundred and fifty (250) photos, this lavishly illustrated full colour book is one people must have in their collection.

The launch took place recently at the Aherlow House Hotel with around three hundred people attending. No the night there were members from nearly every walking and climbing club in Munster, along with the mayor of Tipperary Jackie Finnan, South Tipperary Co Co Chairman Michael Fitzgerald, Martin Quinn from the South Tipperary Development Company who have part funded the book. Along with family and friends who came from as far away as San Francisco.

Organisation’s like the Red Cross, SEMRA “South East Mountain Rescue” Aherlow Failte, Upperchurch and Drombane Dev Committee, The Outdoor Education Center in Kilfinnan, and Mountaineering Ireland and Coast Guard also attended. Jimmy organised the night to be a celebration of the mountains and as a thank you to volunteers he had worked and trained with over the years, as he is a very active member of Mountain Rescue. Well known mountaineer and Irish adventurer Pat Falvey sent Jimmy his best wishes on the night.
