The last four weeks have been extremely busy for the Scouts & Ventures. The mild weather has allowed the Group get out and about almost every week.
On Friday March 2nd, the weekly meeting took place in Orange Hill in Golden Grove; where the Scouts working in their Patrols got to further advance their Adventure Skills (a key element of the Scout Programme) working on backwoods, pioneering, campcraft, air activities and emergencies skills.
Over the last month; the Scouts & Ventures took on a challenging hillwalk in the Galtees. Starting from Kings Yard, the hike route took the Group to the base of Galtymore. It was certainly a day with the four seasons of weather from bright sun, rain, hail and even a little snow. The snow-capped ridge at the top of Galtymore was certainly a great experience.
The following weekend (March 9th to 11th); for the first time the Scouts & Ventures had a weekend camp in the Clara Scout Den. Over the weekend the youth members worked on their Campcraft and Pioneering Skills. On Friday night time was spent with the adults and youth together planning their 2012 Summer Camp to London and the Olympic Games. On Sunday as part of the Environmental element of the programme the Group went to the Interpretative centre in Clara and on the new boardwalk bog trail.
March 17th brought the annual outing in the Parade; with some 100 members of the Group taking part in the parade.
The Scouts, Ventures and Rovers headed to Portumna on Monday March 19th for a Canoeing and Kayaking trip on Lough Derg. A big thanks to Charlie Horan for leading the activity.
