Thurles Drama Group will present an annual and eagerly-awaited night of theatre entitled ‘Short Cuts’ on Friday, May 24th and Saturday, May 25th commencing at 8pm each night in The Source Arts Centre.
This represents the culmination of another year for the group following their tremendously successful productions of The Constant Wife and All My Sons, the latter earning a coveted place at the All-Ireland Open Drama Finals in Athlone for the second year running.
The group always enjoys this evening of theatre and it proves to be most appealing to local audiences and this year will be no exception. For those unfamiliar with the format, the evening consists of a variety of short excerpts from plays, some familiar, some not so well known.
Thurles Drama Group are delighted, again, to welcome many new members to their ranks for this year’s event as well as some more seasoned performers, many of whom have taken the plunge and volunteered to direct a piece this year.
It is a great opportunity for all concerned to ‘dip their toe in the water’, as it were, and see if drama is for them. There are many facets to the drama group and if the stage doesn’t appeal to you, there are always plenty of vacancies behind the scenes so we hope to increase our numbers on both sides following this evening as well as providing a truly entertaining night of drama to the group’s patrons.
Some of the pieces you can expect to see on the night include excerpts from The Lieutenant of Inishmore by Martin McDonagh, Poor Beast in the Rain by Billy Roche and Womberang by Sue Townsend together with many more classic and contemporary works.
On nights such as this there is an emphasis on the lighter side of live performance.
Tickets can be booked at The Source on 0504 90204 or can be purchased at the box office on either night.
