Bealtaine Festival

The annual Bealtaine festival, which celebrates creativity as we age, is well underway across the county and the country this month. As part of the festival, Roscrea Library is hosting some events in May. On Thursday 24th May at 4pm, best selling Thriller author, Ava McCarthy will be on hand to talk about her work and the female hacker turned private eye Harry Martinez that features in her books. Some copies of her books, The Courier, The Insider, and Hide Me are available for loan at Roscrea Library. Admission to this event is free and open to all, but booking is essential.

On Thursday 17th May, John O’Gorman from Tipperary Libraries Local Studies department in Thurles gave an introduction to the records available for those that want to get involved in genealogy in the Roscrea area. These records include Church records, Civil registers, Census 1901 & 1911, and Griffiths Valuation. He also showed how newspapers can be very useful in setting up your family tree. Those who attended found it an invaluable and time saving experience, thrilled at the opportunity to get expert advice.
