AS part of the Gathering 2013 the Tipperary Excel Arts & Cultural Centre in Tipperary Town would like to invite you to the Excel Heritage & Genealogy weekend on March 15th-17th.
With lots of events and activities to participate in, including the St Patrick’s Day parade the Excel will warmly welcome the generations of Tipperary Diaspora back to County Tipperary. As the only place to research your family heritage from the records of the Catholic Church for the diocese of Cashel & Emly, why not use your visit to trace your roots, get to know the people and the places of your heritage.
The Excel will run genealogy workshops giving an overview of where to start your research and the process involved as well as a guided tour around heritage sites in Tipperary Town.
The Genealogy Unit will be open for anyone that would like to get started during the weekend! The theatre event ‘The Great Hunger’ by Patrick Kavanagh, the reason of course for mass emigration from Ireland in the 19th Century will be an opportunity to immerse yourself in Irish literature.
An after dinner speaker on history of Tipperary on Saturday evening along with some traditional music and dance to keep you entertained.
To finish the weekend, the Excel will arrange for you to take part in the St Patrick’s Day parade on Sunday in Tipperary Town. You can participate in all or some of the activities arranged over the weekend and all the Excel staff hope you will decide to join them for part of what promises to be a most memorable year in Ireland.
