International Scholars All Set For
Roscrea Conference

Along with a glittering array of Church and State talent speaking at the 50th Roscrea conference next weekend, (From Citeax to Roscrea), the audience will include many national and international scholars of repute from many fields.

Along with a glittering array of Church and State talent speaking at the 50th Roscrea conference next weekend, (From Citeax to Roscrea), the audience will include many national and international scholars of repute from many fields.

Among those attending are Dr John Coolahan, professor emeritus of Education at Maynooth and chairman of the Body on School Patronage which will shortly report to the Minister for Education and Skills; Emeritus professor of paleobotany at NUIG, Dr Michael O Connell; Professor emerita of Geography at UCD, Dr Anne Buttimer; Dr Michael Ryan, former director the Chester Beaty Library; Head of Collections at the National Museum, Raghall O Floinn; famed celtic scholar and writer Esther de Waal; archaeologists Con Manning, Heather King and Betty O Brien; Head of Reader Services at the National Archives, Dr Aideen Ireland; cardiologist Dr Brian Maurer; Dr Edel Bhreathnach, deputy director of the Micheál O Cleirigh institute at UCD; historian Dr Dagmar O Riain Raedel; Dr Rolf Loeber author and historian from Pittsburg and many others from home and abroad.

The conference runs from Friday evening 13th April until Sunday. Community Mass will be concelebrated on Sunday at the Abbey at 10.30 with the principal concelebrant the Abbot General of the Cistercian Order Dom Eamon Fitzgerald. All lectures in the Cistercian College. Part attendance is possible. Details from Mt St Joseph at 25600 or the conference director George Cunningham who has directed all 50 conferences.
