The Lisheen Mine held its annual Health and Safety ExPo on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th July.
On Thursday we opened the gates to the local community and the families and friends of our employee’s who came on site in hugh numbers to enjoy the various attractions that were put on for the day.
This included a craft fair of local crafts people who were displaying and selling their products, over twenty holistic therapists attended and gave treatments, also local colleges and schools were in attendance giving information on their adult education programmes. For the kids we had Reptile Village, Animal Magic, Nore Valley Pet Farm, train rides, arts & crafts and an ice-cream van. We also had built a virtual underground which people could visit to get a feel for what it would be like to work underground. Food on the day was catered by “Stars of India” restaurant from Thurles. They did an amazing job feeding over 1200 people who visited. It was a great opportunity for people to get a taste of authentic Indian cuisine which they may not normally try and everyone who did was very impressed with the taste and quality of what was served. Shauna O’Leary told the Tipperary Star: “Th e food and service provided by Stars of India was fab. The kids really enjoyed the choice provided as did the adults.” Denise Hogge said: “The food was fantastic - especially dopiaza and the vegetable samozas. The rice was fabulous too - thanks very much!”
