Six former heads of the Shin Bet, Israel’s intelligence and security agency, speak candidly about their role in their country’s decades long counterterrorism campaign in Droh Moreh’s powerful documentary ‘The Gatekeepers’.
Moreh’s film offers a fascinating insight into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict told from the point of view of the Shin Bet and describes through a series of one-on-one interviews the decisions, justifications as well as regrets of the officials in their resolute determination to maintain a nation’s security.
Given exclusive access to archive footage, computer simulations and photographs, Moreh builds up a compelling and shocking account of the tactics used by the Shin Bet including state-sanctioned assassinations, executions of terror suspects and the deaths of innocent civilians classed as ‘collateral damage’ in order to combat terrorism. In doing so, he highlights the moral toll it has taken on a country in its desperate attempts to achieve peace.
‘The Gatekeepers’ will be screened at The Source Arts Centre in Thurles on Wednesday, November 27th at 8pm.
Tickets are priced at €9 (€7 concession and €5 for Film Club members).
