Summer outdoor classics come to Nenagh’s Banba Square on Saturday night, July 14th with a screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s tense thriller Rear Window.
The story is simple: professional photographer LB ‘Jeff’ Jeffries (James Stewart) breaks his leg while taking an action shot at an auto race. Confined to a wheelchair in his New York apartment, he spends his time looking out his rear window and observing his neighbours.
LB Jeffries then begins to suspect that a man across the courtyard may have murdered his wife. Jeff enlists the help of his high society fashion-consultant girlfriend Lisa Freemont (a radiant Grace Kelly) and his visiting nurse Stella to investigate.
The film is considered by many filmgoers, critics and scholars to be one of Hitchcock’s best and this screening is a rare opportunity to see it on the big screen with cinema sound.
Manager at Nenagh Arts Centre, Brendan Maher said this week: “we are trying to encourage more people to come out to these screenings. It’s a great opportunity to see a film for free and take part in what is essentially a community event also. It’s an Irish summer, and late in the evening, so dress warm and be prepared for as great night”.
Rear Window screens at the Nenagh Arts Centre on Saturday, July 14th at sundown (around 10pm).
Admission is free - however patrons are asked to make a donation. Teas, coffees and snacks will also be available for sale.
