A wonderful night of entertainment took place at the Simon Ryan Theatre in the Tipperary Excel on January 25th when a host of stars new and old came together to produce the show band show. RTE’s Ronan Collins was host and compere for the night. Ronan also sang his tribute to Joe Dolan.
Dickie Rock was the headline act while Mark Leen, known as “The Emerald Elvis”, sang the hits of the man who had the most influence on all the early showbands, Elvis Presley!
The big sound of The Conquerors Showband, DJ Curtin and The Big Eight also featured.
Lorraine McDonald, one of the brightest talents to emerge from the latter days of the showband boom, and Eurovision stars Tommy and Jimmy Swarbrigg also gave a wonderful performance. They represented Ireland at the 1975 and 1977 Eurovision. The show’s exciting finale was an all-cast salute to the showband era.
Well done to everyone connected to Reeling in the Years - the good news is we can look forward to a return visit again next year.
