Tipperary author Tom Burnell has just published the first in a new series of books focusing on Irish newspaper reports written during the Great War.
In ‘Irishmen in the Great War: Reports From the Front 1914’ the author has cherry-picked the best, and sometimes most peculiar, stories from a selection of 27 Irish newspapers in circulation at the time - including the ‘Tipperary Star’. These are reports of local men at the front, including eyewitness accounts of the slaughter as it was happening. Tom Burnell lives in Thurles and is an Irish Army veteran of ‘The Troubles’.
