The Source Arts Centre will host a theatre production of ‘Star of the Sea’ on Saturday, October 17th in Thurles at 8pm - a limited amount of early bird tickets are on sale now.
‘Star of the Sea’ is freely adapted from the novel by Joseph O’Connor and is presented by Moonfish Theatre In association with Strollers Network & An Taibhdhearc.
It is the winter of 1847 and the Famine-ship Star of the Sea sets sail for the Promised Land.
Among the passengers are maidservant Mary Duane, the ruined Lord Meredith and Pius Mulvey, a ruthless murderer. Their lives and fates are more connected than any of them realise.
Told through Moonfish’s signature style of bi-lingual theatre six performers use projection, physical movement and live sound-effects to conjure up the worlds of the characters on a bare stage.
At once simple and wildly inventive this powerful production moves beyond the confines of period drama to trace the echoes of the Irish Famine through to the present day.
This is a bilingual production which is accessible to non-Irish speakers.
Based on the best-selling novel by Joseph O’Connor ‘Star of the Sea’ premiered at the Galway International Arts Festival in 2014 where it enjoyed a sell-out run and rave reactions from audiences and reviewers alike.
