A former Tipperary hotelier, now manager of the Lough Erne Resort in County Fermanagh which will host the G8 summit next month, has been named as Hotelier of the Year in Northern Ireland.
Ferghal Purcell was accorded the prestigious award in advance of his hotel laying out the red carpet to Obama,Merkel,Putin and company when world leaders converge on the resort next month.
He took over as manager of the resort after his family hotel business in the Glen of Aherlow , the Aherlow House Hotel, went into receivership.
After suffering such heartbreak Fergal Purcell was catapulted into the global spotlight by British PM David Cameron who announced the G8 summit would be held at the resort in Fermanagh.
He won the‘Hotelier of the Year’ at 2013 Janus Awards.
The Institute of Hospitality Northern Ireland Branch hosted their annual glittering celebration of Northern Ireland’s Hotel and Catering Industry top talent recently with the 18th Janus Awards for Professionalism.
Exclusive to Northern Ireland, the Janus Awards were established in 1995. They identify and reward individuals and companies exemplifying excellence, making an outstanding contribution to the industry at home and enhancing its reputation abroad.
Ferghal Purcell won the prestigious Hotelier of the Year award fighting off stiff competition from Paula Collins at the Hilton Templepatrick, Jan Hanak at Radisson Blu & Park Inn Hotels and Yvonne Smyth at Galgorm Resort & Spa.
Speaking after the awards ceremony, Ferghal commented “I am delighted with the Hotelier of the Year award as well as the recognition for my and the teams’ hard work at Lough Erne Resort over the last year or so. I would especially like to thank all the staff at the resort for their ongoing support, loyalty and dedication to their work.”
Ferghal has been general manager at Lough Erne Resort for over 18 months.
