The fantastic Canonball Run is nearly here and the excitement has upped a notch with the official launch of the festival.
Canonball Queen contestants gathered at Foley’s Bar, last Wednesday, to help organisers publicise the event, which is expected to attract thousands of visitors to the town.
Expect 160 super cars to roar into Cashel on Sunday, August 25. “We are hoping for crowds of 5,000 or more,” said event organisers Seamus Foley and Sean Laffey when the festival was officially launched at Billy Foley’s Lounge Bar.
The annual Cannonball Run is a charity event, which uses the power of motor sport for the benefit of an Irish Charity. The Run will be coming to Cashel as part of the Cashel Cannonball Gathering of Wheels Festival.
The beneficiary of the money raised by the event will be the LauraLynn hospice in Dublin. LauraLynn is Ireland’s only children’s hospice, The House opened in September 2011 and is now bringing care and comfort to terminally ill children and their families, throughout their illness, and at their ever so sad end. LauraLynn Children’s Hospice supports children with life limiting conditions and their families by providing high quality transitional care, home support, respite, crisis and end-of-life care. Their motto is “all children who need us, can access us.”
The media launch of the festival was given an official seal of approval by Cashel Mayor Joe Moloney, who said he was delighted that such a prestigious and worthwhile event was coming to Cashel. A number of Cannon Ball Queens were present at the launch. The young ladies will take part in the Cannon Ball all Queen competition at Halla Na Feile on Friday, August 23.
