Members of Tipperary & District Flower and Garden club achieved six awards at the eleventh World Flower Show at the RDS with participants from all thirty-one member countries.
With an array of beautiful flowers there were many different competition categories. President of the Tipperary & District Flower club, Margaret Kingston from Glencush, Aherlow, won first in ‘Verdant Bower’.
Breda Hayes from Lisnagaul Bansha was commended in, ‘Trifles and Treasures’ and from the Junior Club, Blathnaid O’Dwyer from Sologhead won third prize in ‘Fairy Ring’.
Leah Gallagher from Ballydavid, Bansha, Rachel McCormack St. Michael’s Street Tipperary and Clodagh Kissane from the Galbally road were all commended for their arrangements.
“We are very proud of our achievements and of all our club members ,” said Margaret.
“Well done to Grace Fitzgerald and Lucy Fitzgerald, Vivienne Flynn, Ella Flynn and Elena O Connor all from Tipperary who entered this great show. Congratulations to Rosie Ryan Morrissey from Golden and Jane O’Dwyer from Sologhead and all thirteen members of Tipperary Flower Club who gave their time and their talents to take part in this World Show.”
The Tipperary Flower and Garden Club was founded in 1971 by Dorothy Graves of Ballintemple. Sadly Dorothy died earlier this year but Margaret says her spirit will always live on. . Theresa Collins who was in charge of demonstrations and exhibitions assisted by Kay Beardmore from Dundrum. Mary Keogh from Pallasgreen was one of the International Judging team and Clare Feeney was judging steward.
“It was a wonderful experience to participate in this floral odyssey that is recognised as the Olympics of flower arranging,” added Margaret.
