Maggie Polpin is a newly widowed mother of four living in rural Ireland. Maggie Polpin is a newly widowed mother of four living in rural Ireland. Now sole owner of the family shop and farm, Maggie is determined to create a better life for herself and her children after the death of her husband. Her vision of the future, however, is not one that sits comfortably with her offspring. She is a complex figure, far from the clichés of Irish femininity which preceded her.
