A very special occasion took place at Bunscoil na Cathrach on last Tuesday, June 10, as the school community gathered to honour Mrs Breda O’Sullivan, who is retiring after 25 years of dedicated service to education in Cahir.

The school hall was filled to capacity and the children were buzzing with excitement.

Mrs O’Sullivan arrived to a rousing reception and was greeted by a guard of honour. The students performed a heartfelt rendition of the opening song Lovely Déise.

During the ceremony, symbolic items were presented to reflect the many aspects of Mrs O’Sullivan’s school life. Her deep love for the Irish language and her musical talents were fondly acknowledged.

Highlights included a moving tribute from her colleagues and a poem recited by the children.

There was also a tree planting ceremony in recognition of Mrs O’Sullivan’s instrumental role in developing the school’s new sensory garden.

Each class contributed to a collection of memories compiled into manuscript books. A bouquet of flowers was also offered by a representative of the Parents’ Council.

In her closing remarks, Mrs O’Sullivan shared her own poem of gratitude and offered wise parting words to the children, encouraging them to "always be safe and follow their dreams". 

The entire school community extends its heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Mrs O’Sullivan on her retirement.

Her presence will be deeply missed but her legacy will remain a cherished part of Bunscoil na Cathrach.
