The first lecture of the Society's series for 2026 got off to a great start in Cahir House Hotel on Thursday, January 22.

A fantastic crowd attended to hear Professor Maria McNamara’s talk on ‘The Fossils of South Tipperary: A journey through 500 million years of Earth history’.

The Clonmel native is a Professor of Paleontology at the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at University College Cork.

Professor McNamara really engaged with the audience. Lots of fossils were brought to the talk on the night and audience enjoyed the interaction with Prof McNamara immensely.

Cahir Social & Historical Society looks forward to seeing all of members and friends in the near future for more events.

All are welcome.
