A view of Carrick-on-Suir Town Clock from Sean Kelly Square
Three faces of Carrick-on-Suir's historic town clock are now telling the time again thanks to the repair and restoration works currently taking place on the time piece and its tower.
Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District Administrator Marie Cox relayed the good news that the third face of the town clock is now working to councillors at the district’s monthly meeting in Carrick Town Hall.
The repair and renovation works began on the 18th century clock and the clock tower on September 3.
The removal of damaging vegetation from the parapet masonry, re-bedding of cap stones, pointing of damaged or missing mortar joints, repair of leadwork and removal of a considerable build up of bird dropping are among the other works, she reported being carried ou on the structure.
Carrick-on-Suir Fianna Fáil Cllr Kieran Bourke said the clock was starting to look fantastic and paid tribute to Ms Cox for the huge effort she has put into securing grant aid to enable this work to happen.
The project is being funded by a €9,000 Built Heritage Investment Scheme grant with a further €10,000 investment from the council’s own coffers.
