Santa arriving into Carrick-on-Suir town centre to switch on the town's Christmas lights a few years ago
Close to €50,000 has been invested in new Christmas lights for Carrick-on-Suir town centre, which will be officially switched on this Saturday, November 29 by the winners of a primary schools art contest.
The young winners of the Tides of Time Colouring Competition will switch on Carrick-on-Suir’s new Christmas lights outside the Carraig Hotel at 4.30pm on Saturday.
The switch-on event promises festive fun for the whole family. Carrick-on-Suir Brass Band will perform seasonal favourites, while Carrick River Rescue will escort Santa to Main Street for the lights ceremony.
It will mark the start of an exciting programme of Christmas events, including the Christmas Tractors of Carrick-on-Suir Parade that will be delivered by local clubs, businesses and Explore Carrick-on-Suir throughout the festive period.
The Tides of Time art contest was run in local primary schools by Carrick-on-Suir Business Association and Explore Carrick-on-Suir tourism initiative.
The competition was inspired by the new Tides of Time mural in Carrickbeg painted by artist Fintan Magee and set children the challenge of illustrating their favourite memory, person or place in Carrick-on-Suir.
COSBA Chairman Pat Dunphy encouraged the people of the town to come and experience the Christmas lights switching on celebration on Main Street.
He said COSBA has made a major investment this year in purchasing new Christmas lights for the town centre, which is the beginning of a multi-year upgrade programme.
“This initiative has been made possible with the support of Tipperary County Council, Eoin Fitzgerald Electrical and most importantly the member businesses of COSBA. The goal is to deliver the town’s best festive display in years.”
