Joe Pryce, Ger ‘Skippy’ Myers and Kevin Brunnick with Martin Browne on the canvass in Woodview in Cahir
On the doorstep, Tipperary South Sinn Féin candidate Martin Browne is hearing that people are just looking for support from Government.
The people who answered the door to the campaign team of Martin Browne in Woodview, Cahir were asking him to get the government to give them practical support.
One of the most pressing issues among residents was the failure of Government to properly support carers in the home. People were also frustrated at the barriers confronted with applications for disability grants and grants for essential works needed to be carried out in the house. Rose Darcy assured Martin Browne he would get her vote and told him about the problems she was having with trying to replace the bath in the house with a stand-in shower.
Across the road Mark Darcy was wondering why more help was not given to carers.
He is looking after his wife Geraldine who has cancer and they are frustrated by the lack of support.
RESPITE
“Carers are just not getting enough support. It is a crazy situation. She has to go to Dublin three or four times a week and she is in and out of Clonmel hospital,” said Mark.
He said respite was impossible to get.
Eamon O’Connor said something had to be done about the amount of dog dirt on all of the footpaths.
“You walk from here to the shop and the footpaths are destroyed with it,” he said.
Deputy Browne said that it was obvious from the campaign that people were crying out for support.
“So little could make a big difference for so many and the government has done nothing to help these people for years,” said Deputy Browne.
“These things would cost very little money in the overall scheme of things. We are a rich country but cannot provide the small things that people really need from day to day.
“They should be getting far more support from Government,” insisted Sinn Féin’s Martin Browne.
