Marlfield Lake is a wildlife sanctuary and a popular area for visitors
The Office of Public Works (OPW) has approved funding of €45,000 for proposed works at Marlfield Village, Clonmel.
This includes installing temporary works to support the large retaining wall and parapet, the removal of all vegetation and trees in the vicinity of the culvert and strengthening the existing stone masonry and concrete retaining walls to the upstream embankments.
Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Kieran O’Donnell, announced the approval of Tipperary County Council’s application for funding under the Office of Public Works’ Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme.
The Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme was introduced by the OPW in 2009.
Since then, 66 funding applications by Tipperary County Council have been supported under this scheme.
The OPW says that the purpose of the scheme is to provide funding to local authorities to undertake minor flood mitigation works or studies to address localised flooding and coastal protection problems within their administrative areas.
“The scheme generally applies where a solution can be readily identified and achieved in a short time frame,” the OPW added.
